CREATING HAPPY PETS AND HUMANS WITH POSITIVE TRAINING THAT WORKS!

Announcement

Dear Happy Paws Clients,

In an effort to prepare for Hurricane Florence, we will be closing our Happy Paws training facility in order to accommodate VBSPCA storm protocols. This change is effective immediately. If you need further information about the pet safety or storm related VBSPCA operational changes, please read our latest updates here.

As soon as the storm is over, we will be making some changes to how we offer our Happy Paws training services, and the facility will remain closed for the month of September. These changes will allow us to shift our training focus toward the animals directly in our care and to strengthen the success of VBSPCA canine adoptions. We will continue to offer our core puppy and dog training courses, along with occasional specialty workshops, but we will discontinue all other training offerings, including our Drop and Train Service. Classes will resume in October, but the Indian River location will only be open during scheduled class times. All other training operations will be based out of the VBSPCA shelter on Holland Rd. We will be posting our new schedules soon and please check our website for updates.

If you have classes on your account that you have not yet redeemed, email Kate.Baldwin@vbspca.com and we will be in touch next week.

Thank you for your patronage and for supporting the VBSPCA mission, and stay safe in the storm!

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Respectfully,
The VBSPCA

About Happy Paws Humane Pet Training

Our Mission

Happy Paws is a collaborative venture in support of the Virginia Beach SPCA that provides education and training to strengthen the bond between companion animals and their families. Our collective vision is for all pets in Hampton Roads to live in loving forever homes. Happy Paws is made possible courtesy of a generous grant from the Alfred L. Nicholson Fund of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.

Our Philosophy

Happy Paws’ training philosophy is the product of years of training and research. We believe that every pet is an individual member of a family and deserves to be treated humanely and with respect. Training should be fun for both you and your pet, and our training methods center on a reward-based method system that builds a positive relationship between pet and owner.

This relationship is achieved by teaching our animals what is expected of them in any given situation, rather than using force and excessive corrections. At Happy Paws, we take a holistic approach that is firmly rooted in scientific learning theory.

Our strategy is to identify desired behaviors and positively reinforce them so that they can be repeated.
