CREATING HAPPY PETS AND HUMANS WITH POSITIVE TRAINING THAT WORKS!

Happy Paws Update - November 8, 2018

PUPPY TRAINING IS BACK!

Happy Paws Puppy training is currently available to all VBSPCA adopters who have adopted a puppy within the last 12 months. Our training schedule offers a Basic class for puppies up to 6 months of age and an Advanced class for puppies between 6 and 12 months of age. Classes are offered as sessions, and adopters will select the date and time of the week that works best for their schedule. Please note that whichever day and time you choose will be the same day and time for each of your 6 training sessions. This allows our training staff to move forward with the curriculum while keeping everyone on the same page, ensuring a successful experience for both puppies and parents. We launch a new phase of classes every few weeks so you won’t have to wait to long to get your training started. For information on our winter schedule or to sign up for a class, email puppytraining@vbspca.com.

K9 Nose Work®

Join us for K9 Nose Work®, the dog activity that ignites your dog’s natural ability to follow scent through fun and games. Nose work is both a dog- and family-friendly activity, and a sport that leverages every dog’s amazing sense of smell and problem-solving abilities. This is for dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages, and people of all kinds, too.

We will use detection dog training methods to develop your dog’s skill at searching. Nose work builds your dog’s confidence, increases his problem-solving skills, burns off mental and physical energy, and reinforces the bond between you and your dog. Whether you are looking for something new and fun to do with your dog, or you’d like to compete in trials, nose work is for any dog and their human. Come join the fun!

Intro to K9 Nose Work®

Ready, set, sniff! Join the fun and watch your dog be his best with nose work. K9 Nose Work® is both an activity and a sport, based on detection dog training techniques. It builds and focuses your dog’s scenting ability through fun and games. Nose Work also develops your dog’s focus and problem-solving skills, provides mental and physical exercise, and builds confidence.

We start with “box work” and primary rewards (food) to teach your dog the game. This provides a foundation for other nose games or can be the first step on your dog’s new career as a nose work competitor!

Pre-requisite: None – this class is for any dog with a nose!
